Exams !!

Engineering is the discipline of acquiring and applying scientific and technical knowledge to the design, analysis, and/or construction of works for practical purposes. Well, Wikipedia says that. But is it really so?? I really wonder!! What part of it has left now?

Because for the greater part of the mob, engineering in our country has become just a way to earn the living. But the thing which concerns me these days more than that is whenever exam approaches, the engineering people sits holding a book/e-book or some photocopy with tension playing with them, cramming up all n putting it all on the examination booklet. Acquiring knowledge and applying it are something like alien talks; in fact aliens are much more popular now. All they have on their mind at that time is how to score more n more. In fact now a day the children, from the very beginning, since their childhood are learning how to score more with less knowledge, they have never been inspired to acquire more knowledge. As a result of which we people(most of us) never have craving for knowledge.

It is an incident of last endsem, when I had exam of one of the interesting subject(for me),after attempting 40% of paper, I didn’t wish to write anything, mera mann hi nai kar raha tha!, because there was a feeling that I will definitely be able to pass with what I have written then why to write something, if passing only matters to us and when I do have knowledge then what is the sense in writing it somewhere when not applying it. I was fed up of writing just for the sake of those marks which matters nothing other than having some good score on score sheet and feeling good for a time being. But what good this score will do, if we have only theoretical knowledge of things and engineering is all about application, n thing which has to be looked upon is that we do not have some theoretical knowledge even, all we cram just for the so called EXAMS.

So, is doing engineering right if we do not have appropriate interest? Or its course pattern and use of proper resources are not up to the mark to nurture the engineering skills in students? Or pattern of judging the knowledge is erroneous. Is it the fault of students, parents or the system or the whole comprising all of them in which we are studying??

One of my friend say that me n my exam never go well together, may be this is the reason that I have never been convinced by this funda of exams!!

  1. I firmly agree with the facts that Sarvagya reveiled in this blog. I feel that her concern over EXAMS related pattern & students way to tackel this situation is correct.
She reveiled real picture of every engineering student faces during EXAMS. She even solves the contradiction between knowledge based learning i.e mug up( rattam vidhya ) . I think, as far as engineering student is concern...... a knowledge really matters for his/her future prospects though it's essential to aquire a sufficient marks in graduation. But a prime importance must be given to knowledge, scoring a good marks is secondary aspect . even a third division passed student can lead better in any field than a distinction fellow.there are many examples......in the real life who believes only on practical based knowledge, they even don't rely on education pattern & even condemn exams...one of such eg. is Albert Einstien who left school after VIII standard...just on the sake of aquiring enough knowledge in his interested field.
Hence, i think nobody can be blaimed for this sort of situation....becuse there are certain students, whose only motive is to get good score regardless of knowledge aj padha kal bhool gaye...on the contrary people like Sarvagya, they just need minimum marks to get the exams pass..
She even explores her views by telling situation in smesters exams....that's really good point she covered.
Moreover.. it's really a nice effort from her side to elaborate a pratical situation of a engg. student.... upto some extent our educational system is equally responsible for the same....
